So how long does it take for them to start laying? I told my husband last night, if we had more room, that I wanted chickens and surprisingly he said yeah, I would too!
How many eggs are you planning to get from 3 chickens? This is something I've thought about doing if we end up staying here a little longer. Although I dont know any of the cost to get them vs how much it would save us...I am also afriad chickens will be gross and dirty, not sure why, they cant be any dirtier than a lab who digs!
I think they start laying eggs around 6 months old. Ours are 5 months. Depending on them and the weather we are hoping to have eggs next month. In the cold they won't lay as much. Apparently, they average 5-7 a week so we are looking at about 15-21 eggs a week eventually! We eat around a dozen eggs a week so we are hoping they provide all of our eggs for us!
@fuelmyfamily I really love all animals but to me birds are dirty and are unpredictable. Maybe because they don't have facial expressions or a lot of body language? It's hard to tell when they are unhappy. It took a little convincing from the husband for me to agree to getting them.
