Whole30 Day 3

Breakfast:

Two eggs with peppers and onions cooked in ghee.  Plus strawberries.

These frozen peppers have been a life saver...

Just add them frozen to the hot ghee.

Lunch:

Pork, brussels, and kale topped with avocado.  Plus leftover sweet potato and coconut butter.

Dinner:

I made the kids sweet potato fries and I ate quite a few before I had dinner.

I wasn't overly hungry so I ate a small bowl of spaghetti squash with meat sauce and mushrooms.

Exercise:
An hour of body combat.

Water:
Got in the bone broth and water today.

How I feel:
I felt pretty good all day.  Around 2ish though I felt a little tired, bored, and sluggish.  Normal?  I had a small handful of macadamias and felt better.

I am really trying not to snack in the afternoon.  I can't figure out if it's a habit or my body really needs fuel in the afternoon.  What do you think?

Hmmm. You do have long workouts, maybe your body does need the fuel.

Those sweet potato fries look so good.

How does the kale taste? I have had kale chips and the aftertaste gets me.

Yum, this makes me want brussel sprouts. Also I ate my sweet potato with ghee today, but coconut butter sounds amaaaaazing.

I love kale with ground pork. It almost just melts in together and it all tastes the same haha. We love kale as a family though. Even my kids love it :)

Yummy day!

I was watching something on TV the other day and they were talking about the body's natural rhythm and the afternoon "slump". It's normal. I've been trying to rest and read for 15-20 minutes when I am feeling this. A fat/protein/veggie snack usually perks me up too.

Kristen I think this is the hard part, trying to listen to your body. Yesterday (day 3) I had to have something in the afternoon because I was hungry. I definitely think some people just need that little bit in the afternoons to keep going, that's me. Like Tiffany I'm keeping it to a small serve of fat/veg/protein. It worked a treat for me yesterday. But everyone is different and this is about finding out what works for your body. Love that lunch meal!

I think it's interesting that you said you felt better after a handful of nuts. So, maybe your body DID need it? And that's a pretty small snack, so maybe over the next few days/weeks, you can slowly decrease the size of the snack (if you really want to be without that snack all together).

That's a great idea Michelle! Maybe it's just a mind thing? I felt better mentally because I had a snack? It's so confusing.

I never thought this would be the hard part! I really thought it would be cravings and saying no to foods. Then again this is the thing I wanted to work on for this Whole30. Mindless eating. Now I've got to figure out how to listen to my body.

I tried sitting down yesterday but that didn't work so maybe I really was hungry...

You are doing so awesome! I'm such a snacker too so I would definitely love to get myself away from that too but it certainly is a challenge!

Hi! I'm on day 18 of Whole30 (and blogging about it, although not exclusively, http://chocolateismylife-us.blogspot.com/, don't know if I need to include that) and still haven't tried ghee! But macadamias and sweet potato fries are freaking AMAZING. I would say you might be actually hungry in the afternoon. It is still a challenge for me to not eat too much/too little as I'm still adjusting.

Aww thanks girl! :)

I would say that if you are hungry in the afternoon, by all means eat a mini-meal following the W30 meal plan. There's a difference between mindless snacking and intentional snacking because you're hungry. If you make it a mini meal and not a handful of something quick, you may be a better judge if you really need to eat or not since t would require a little effort to obtain.

Sorry if this sounds a little disjointed with typos; in having phone issues today!

I figure if you're hungry eat. As long as its a healthy snack. If nothing else, you will just naturally eat less at your next meal. I snack pretty much every afternoon and every night after dinner. Sometimes i think maybe its out of boredom or habit but I maintain the weight i want so my body must need those calories. I am actually more scared of not eating enough and ruining my metabolism for life than possibly overeating and gaining a couple pounds which would be easily lost. I think many people (and bloggers that i've stopped following) totally undereat and it kills their metabolism. I could never survive off 1600 calories like many claim to!

I've been sticking to around 1500 calories a day but I'm trying to lose body fat. I think everyone is different. You have a high metabolism lucky girl :)

I recently finished a Whole30, took a few weeks off, and now I'm doing a second with my husband. I'm pretty active and didn't do the program to lose weight, but I did, despite eating gigantic meals. Gigantic! Your meals look tiny by comparison. I'm sure you're going to eat when you're hungry... just wanted to add my two cents. Also, thank you for the delicious Italian meatball recipe. I made them tonight and they're superb!

Aww thank you! I'm SO glad you liked them. I have a really terrible metabolism so I'm hoping paleo and Whole30 fix that a bit. I also have a tendency to over eat which is why I'm watching my portions ;)

i have also been in an almost constant state of pregnancy or breastfeeding for 5 1/2 years too, so that helps a ton :)
